"Hillingdon" can mean the London Borough of Hillingdon, the council area, or the smaller place next to Uxbridge that shares its name. The council's own history says the borough was created in 1965 by joining the borough of Uxbridge with three urban districts: Ruislip-Northwood, Hayes and Harlington, and Yiewsley and West Drayton. This page is about the smaller place.

Its postcodes are a bit of a muddle. Most of it is UB10, but the old church and the hospital are UB8:

The old village on Hillingdon Hill

The old village is on Hillingdon Hill, the stretch of Uxbridge Road by the parish church. Cedar House, on the corner of Vine Lane and Hillingdon Hill, and the Church of St John the Baptist on Royal Lane are both Grade II* listed, and a council planning report puts the church 25 metres south of the Cedar House site.

Conservation area status is a planning matter and doesn't change how a kitchen gets degreased. Older houses do come with things worth mentioning, though: original tiles, sash windows, open fireplaces, or floors that shouldn't get soaked. List them when you ask for a price and they go on the checklist for the visit.

If the house hasn't had a thorough going-over in a while, start with a one-off deep clean. A regular domestic clean, weekly or fortnightly, keeps it at that level afterwards.

Around Hillingdon Court Park and Long Lane

The council lists Hillingdon Court Park as one of the borough's 15 areas of special local character. The park, on Parkway, has a bowling green, a tennis court, an outdoor gym and two junior football pitches. Oak Farm Library is close by on Sutton Court Road, UB10 9PB.

Hillingdon Underground station is on Long Lane, in Zone 6, with Metropolitan and Piccadilly line trains. Long Lane also runs to Hillingdon Circus, the large junction where it meets Western Avenue, the A40. Flat or family house, the booking works the same way anywhere around here. Near Hillingdon Hospital

The NHS trust that runs Hillingdon Hospital on Pield Heath Road says it's the only acute hospital in Hillingdon, and the trust has a redevelopment programme for the site.
