In planning terms Uxbridge sits at the top of its borough's list of town centres: Hillingdon's Local Plan names it as the borough's only Metropolitan Centre. The council runs the borough from Hillingdon Civic Centre on High Street, and its recent Uxbridge vision sets out plans for the town centre: support for the office market at its heart, new housing in the centre, and a remodelled bus interchange with a new public square, worked out with Transport for London.

Uxbridge Underground station is in Zone 6, and TfL lists both the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines there. Brunel University of London has its single campus in Uxbridge, reached by car from Kingston Lane, and the university puts it about a mile from the tube station. The walk it describes goes down Windsor Street and along Whitehall Road and Cleveland Road.

None of that is about cleaning. It does show that the buildings in UB8 range from town-centre offices to a university campus and older residential streets, and each of those needs a different kind of clean.

Offices and clinics in the town centre

Homes around Old Uxbridge and St Andrew's Park

Old Uxbridge/Windsor Street is one of Hillingdon's conservation areas. The council first designated Windsor Street in 1973, then amalgamated it in 1987 to create the area under its current name. The Greenway is another. St Andrew's Park is named in the council's Uxbridge vision as a residential area the council wants better connected to the town centre. North Uxbridge appears on the council's list of areas of special local character. Whichever part of UB8 your home is in, the cleaning it needs is the ordinary kind done well.

For a home, that usually means a regular domestic clean every week or fortnight, or a one-off deep clean when a house has got ahead of you. Every property gets its own checklist, so the kitchen and bathrooms in a flat off High Street aren't treated like the ones in a family house. By the canal: Uxbridge Lock and Uxbridge Moor

The canal side of town has its own conservation areas. Hillingdon designated Uxbridge Lock and Uxbridge Moor in 2003, and both come under the council's canal locks advisory panel. The Uxbridge vision also wants to restore links between the town centre and the canal, local parks and the Battle of Britain Bunker visitor centre.
